Shadow Drawings-Assignment 6-Option 2
Recommended for any grade level, but younger kids may need help tracing their shadows
Objective: Create a drawing and or painting using shadows outside or by creating shadows using and arranging chosen objects.
Define abstract art and non-objective art by using words and looking at examples.
Materials needed: pencil, paper, a sunny day with shadows....and anything else that you want to use to turn your drawing into a finished piece of artwork. I chose to use oil pastels and watercolor to create an oil pastel resist.
Hello Artists!
This next assignment requires you to go outside and get some sunshine. You will be creating shadow drawings and or paintings.
STEP ONE: Find a shadow and trace it using a pencil. Examples are below...
STEP THREE: Turn your shadow drawing into a finished piece of artwork. I used oil pastel to trace my shadow drawing, and I created circles within the shadow tracings. Then I painted over the oil pastel and created a blue watercolor fade around the shadow tracings. Below you can see a before and after...
My finished piece is an example of Abstract Art. Abstract art is any art that is not realistic. Realistic artwork is artwork that looks like something in real life. Abstract art requires the artist to use their own style and imagination to create their artwork. There are many different kinds of abstract art. Abstract art can be a person, place, or thing, or it can just be different shapes, lines, and colors. Abstract artwork that is just shapes, lines, and colors is also called Non-Objective Artwork. I have examples of all three pictured below.
